Measurable accuracy is the only quality metric that matters.
Consumer printing quality is about aesthetics. Blueprint printing quality is about accuracy. A beautiful print at the wrong scale fails permit review. A sharp print with missing pages fails bid distribution. Quality in blueprint printing means the print is accurate, complete, and legible enough to use as a working document.
Scale accuracy
The single most important quality metric. The print must measure at the scale stated in the title block. We verify this before every order. A 1% scale error is invisible to the eye and caught by a ruler.
Line weight and clarity
Architectural and engineering lines require consistent weight — dimension lines, wall lines, annotation text must all be clear and distinguishable. HP PageWide XL produces sharp, consistent output at resolution suitable for architectural detail.
Paper weight and opacity
20lb bond is the standard for blueprint printing — sufficient opacity for most architectural and engineering drawings, appropriate weight for rolling or folding to job site. We use standard 20lb bond on all blueprint orders unless otherwise specified.
Color accuracy on color sheets
Color MEP coordination drawings, colored site plans, and color-coded details print accurately on HP PageWide XL. Our per-page color detection charges color rates only where color content exists.

What poor print quality actually looks like
Lines too light
Dimension lines and annotation text fade out on bond paper. A reviewer cannot read the dimensions. An inspector cannot verify what's been built against what was permitted.
Ink bleeding
Fine detail lines bleed into each other on uncalibrated equipment. Hatching, linework, and small text become indistinguishable. Dimensioned details are unreadable.
Scaling distortion
Output printed at wrong scale or with aspect ratio distortion. Dimensions on the print don't match what the title block states. Permit reviewer places a ruler and the numbers don't agree.
Banding and streaking
Horizontal banding across the print from a clogged or miscalibrated print head. Solid fills and gradients show visible stripes. Unacceptable for professional submission.
