Why Revit prints fail
One default setting is rejecting your permit sets
Revit's Print Setup dialog defaults to "Fit to Page" in many installations. Most firms don't catch it until their permit submission comes back rejected — or until a framing crew is pulling wrong dimensions on-site.

This method works in all Revit versions. For Revit 2022 and later, see Method 2 (File → Export → PDF) below — it gives you more control over multi-sheet exports.

Confirm your sheet sizes in the project
Before exporting, verify that each sheet in your project is set to the correct size. In the Project Browser, right-click a sheet and open Properties. Confirm the title block size — ARCH D = 24×36 inches. If you're using a custom title block, open the family in the Family Editor and check the sheet dimensions.
⚠️ If your title block family is the wrong size, the PDF will export at that wrong size. The Print/Export dialog can't override the sheet size defined by the title block family.

Go to File → Print (Ctrl+P)
The Print dialog will open. Do not print from a view — always print from sheets. Views print without title blocks and may not have correct drawing borders.

Select a PDF printer under Name
Under Name, select Microsoft Print to PDF or Adobe PDF. Do not select a physical plotter — you're creating a file to upload.

Select your sheets under Print Range
Choose Selected Views/Sheets and click the Select… button. A dialog appears listing all sheets and views in your project. Select the sheets you want to export. For a complete permit set, select all sheets.

Click Setup — set Zoom to exactly 100%
Click the Setup… button. In the Print Setup dialog, find the Zoom section. Set it to 100%. This is the most important setting in the entire workflow.
⚠️ This is the #1 reason Revit prints fail inspection. "Fit to Page" is the default in many Revit installations. It rescales your drawing to fill the PDF printer's paper size — which is usually letter or tabloid, not your 24×36 sheet. Your title block says 1/4"=1'-0". The print doesn't. The permit office will not accept it. Set Zoom to 100% — every time, without exception.

Confirm paper size in Print Setup
While still in Print Setup, verify the paper size matches your Revit sheet size. For ARCH D sheets, it should read 24 × 36 inches or equivalent. If the paper size doesn't match your sheet, the output will be cropped or scaled incorrectly. Click OK to close Setup, then OK to print.

Verify the exported PDF before uploading
Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat or your PDF viewer. Check: page dimensions (should show 24.00 × 36.00 inches for ARCH D), sheet count (all sheets exported), orientation (landscape for wide drawings). Use a scale ruler or our free scale checker to verify a known dimension.
Method 2 — File → Export → PDF (Revit 2022+)
The preferred method for Revit 2022 and later
Revit 2022 introduced a dedicated PDF export function that gives you more control over sheet selection, file naming, and output quality than the Print dialog. If you're on Revit 2022 or later, use this method.

Go to File → Export → PDF
Navigate to File → Export → PDF. The Export PDF dialog opens — this is a different interface from the Print dialog and offers more options.

Select sheets to export
In the Export PDF dialog, select the sheets to include. You can select all sheets, a sheet set, or individual sheets. The dialog shows a preview list of selected sheets.

Confirm export settings — Zoom must be 100%
Under Settings, confirm: Zoom: 100% (not Fit to Page), Paper size: matches your sheet size, Color: as needed (black lines or color). For multi-sheet exports to a single PDF, ensure "Combine Sheets into Single PDF" is checked.
✅ The Export PDF dialog in Revit 2022+ remembers your last settings. Once you configure it correctly, future exports should retain the 100% zoom setting.

Export and verify
Click Export, name your file, and save. Open the resulting PDF and verify dimensions before uploading to Azul Prints.

Version Notes
Revit version differences — what changed
Revit 2022 and later
File → Export → PDF is available. This is the preferred export method — more control, better multi-sheet handling, retains settings between sessions. The Zoom: 100% requirement applies in both the Print and Export dialogs.
Revit 2019–2021
Use File → Print with Microsoft Print to PDF. No dedicated PDF export dialog. The Print Setup dialog is where you set Zoom to 100%. Everything else in the workflow is the same.
Revit LT
Revit LT supports File → Print and (in 2022+) File → Export → PDF. The same workflow applies. Some advanced features like worksharing are unavailable but don't affect PDF export.
Revit on Mac (via Parallels)
Revit is Windows-only. If running via Parallels on macOS, use the Windows PDF printer within the Parallels environment. The macOS "Save as PDF" option in the Print dialog may not correctly handle large-format sheet sizes — use Microsoft Print to PDF inside Windows.
